A COLLECTION OF ESSAYS WRITTEN IN FAVOUR OF THE IMPROVEMENT OF STEPHENS VALLEY
Author – William Ray
Edition 3. Issue 03.
Though it isn’t officially spring yet, it is certain that we all want it to be. So, while we are looking ahead, it seems like a good time to give everyone some information about certain events, festivals, celebrations, and such that are coming up in the neighborhood, and the region, over the next few weeks and months. There are some really cool things already planned, and you ought to get them penciled in on your calendars!
A group of SV residents is also working on new events, and while planning is in very preliminary stages, you should know what is cooking. There is a big effort going on to plan regular “Jamming” events for the neighborhood. These will be free-form musical performances by residents for residents. We are very lucky to have a few actual professional musicians in our midst, and they have agreed to lead a larger group of “sort of” musicians (everyone is invited) in these sessions. Right now, we hope to premier the first event sometime in May. The newly formed events group (chaired by Tami Foster) is also working on other interesting activities. They have already chosen to have a community cornhole event each first Thursday at 5pm (the first one will be March 7), and each second Sunday at 3pm will be a community pickleball gathering. Other athletic events are being discussed as well. Progressive dinners, neighborhood cookouts, group visits to interesting, restaurants, group trips to regional festivals, and other activities are all being worked out by this new committee.
For the most part, the following listing of events were researched and compiled by our neighbor, Paul Lavin. Even though a big listing of events for the Spring and Summer follows, these are mainly choices that a few folks have made by guessing at what would interest the residents, but there are many more available in our region. Future issues of The Valleyist will likely repeat these listings closer to their time of occurrence, just so you can be reminded closer to the events. Here goes...
